Dear Friends,
Many recent events across the country provide stark reminders of why elections matter. Earlier this month, the Texas legislature passed a bill that effectively shuts down 90% of women's reproductive health clinics even after a state senator stood for over 11 hours as part of a heroic filibuster to block it earlier. Two weekends ago, a jury's unfortunate decision to acquit the neighborhood watchman who killed Trayvon Martin--an unarmed, 17-year old, African-American boy--might have ended differently had it not been for the "stand your ground" law that was passed by the Florida legislature in 2005. And a few months ago, the governor of North Carolina blocked an expansion of federally-funded Medicaid that would have provided healthcare coverage to 500,000 low-income residents in the state. These examples all point to a simple fact: that state elections matter and can have tremendous consequences. I recognize the impact that the Maryland General Assembly can have on us, and that's why I'm running to serve as your state delegate. Over the last few weeks, we've advanced our campaign with a successful fundraiser, participation in two parades on Independence Day, and over 1000 doors canvassed in the district. (See photos below.) None of this could have been done without the generous support of contributors and volunteers like yourself. We invite you to visit our Facebook page so that you will receive the latest updates on how you can continue to help our campaign. Like our Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/ClarenceLamMD. It's clear that state elections matter and can make a real difference, so let's keep our campaign going with your help and support. ![]() Top: Fundraiser on June 29, 2013.
